FAQ's

What Does Deionization Do?

Deionization (DI) is the process of cleaning or polishing water. It usually goes hand in hand with reverse osmosis (RO) in a Water Fed system. First, it goes through reverse osmosis, then to an RO membrane, and lastly through deionization housing for water polishing.

To keep your pure water system effective, you need to replace your resin cartridge from time to time. Virgin resin, which is the component used to remove total dissolved solids (TDS) from the tap, can wear out over time. You may check the effectiveness of your resin by using a TDS meter on your purified H2O.

Where Can You Use a Deionization Filter?

Deionized H2O has a lot of uses, mostly for laboratory purposes. But it’s more commonly known as the ideal water for a window cleaning Water Fed system. Purified H2O has a TDS of 0, which allows it to clean glass and surfaces spot-free. Its use is the standard among professional window cleaning services, as it eliminates the need for final polishing only to remove smears.

Our DI replacement cartridges are meant for its lightweight steel frame cart, which is a must-have for professional window cleaners.

How Often Should You Change Your Deionization Resin?

The ion exchange resin can exhaust its capacity to remove contaminants over time. This is why it’s important to regularly replace them. However, the lifespan of a deionization filter varies depending on the quality of the water involved. If the supply has a great amount of TDS in it, it’s more likely to wear out your resin. It’s best to check the TDS level of your H2O. A high level should tell you that your deionization resin needs replacement.

Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.  These chemicals can be in the products that Californians purchase, in their homes or workplaces, or that are released into the environment. By requiring that this information be provided, Proposition 65 enables Californians to make informed decisions about their exposures to these chemicals. Proposition 65 also prohibits California businesses from knowingly discharging significant amounts of listed chemicals into sources of drinking water. Proposition 65 requires California to publish a list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. This list, which must be updated at least once a year, has grown to include approximately 900 chemicals since it was first published in 1987. Proposition 65 became law in November 1986, when California voters approved it by a 63-37 percent margin.  The official name of Proposition 65 is the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

The list of chemicals contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that include additives or ingredients in pesticides, common household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents. Listed chemicals may also be used in manufacturing and construction, or they may be byproducts of chemical processes, such as motor vehicle exhaust.  For more information visit www.p65warnings.ca.gov/
