Application Instructions
Surface Preparation:
Remove loose debris such as leaves, branches, dirt, and heavy buildup before application. The surface must be dry before Citra-Shield® is applied.
As a best practice, pre-wet surrounding vegetation to dilute incidental overspray or runoff.
Dilution:
Use Citra-Shield® Ready-to-Use as supplied.
For Citra-Shield® Concentrate, dilute at a 5:1 ratio — 5 parts water to 1 part concentrate for standard cleaning applications.
Application:
Apply using a commercial-grade low-pressure sprayer or properly configured drone system. Thoroughly saturate the target surface so it is visibly wet while avoiding excessive runoff.
Do not rinse after application.
For best performance, apply between 45°F and 90°F. Avoid application during intense sunlight, high winds, freezing conditions, or when rain is expected within 12 hours.
How Long Does Citra-Shield® Take to Work?
Citra-Shield® is designed differently from instant pressure washing. Instead of immediately blasting staining from the surface, the product treats biological growth and allows natural weathering to progressively clean the surface.
Typical visible-result timelines include:
- Green algae: approximately 1–3 weeks
- Black stains: approximately 12–24 weeks
- Roof lichen and deeper staining: approximately 12–24 weeks
Results may vary depending on the type and severity of growth, surface conditions, weather, and application.
Treating Moss with Citra-Shield®
For surfaces with heavy moss growth, thick buildup can be gently removed with a broom or brush before treatment to improve contact with the underlying surface.
Saturate the remaining moss thoroughly with Citra-Shield®. As the moss dies, it may turn brown or yellow, which is a normal part of the treatment process.
There is no need to pressure wash the dead moss away. Over time, wind, rain, and natural weathering help break down and remove the remaining material.
Long-Term Maintenance
Areas with particularly heavy organic growth or surfaces that have been neglected for extended periods may benefit from a second treatment after several months.
Preventative applications every 6–12 months can also help maintain treated surfaces and reduce the return of organic staining.
